10th years of our university .

On the 10th anniversary year of the university of Vocational Technology  being designated as a university, it is necessary to address why it is important that this is so

It all started with a belief in the power of education to change people’s lives and enable them to “reach the stars through hard work.”
The University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC) is established by the parliamentary Act No. 31 of 2008, and functions under the purview of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development.This university was established 2009-03-3.

Skilled technicians maintain the daily technological functions of the industrial world ensuring the technology runs accurately and efficiently. Hands-on approach to technical education providing the essential tools for students to succeed in their careers upon graduation.
The university is also important to me both professionally and personally by having it designated as its own university . It is important to me personally because it shows me that Marquette values me as a student and a prospective teacher. I am proud to be part of a university that instills in me the values that every successful educator should demonstrate in their classroom: service, excellence, faith, and leadership, as well as a university that wants to ensure that I am well-prepared for my future serving others by providing direct guidance and practice for my future career.

A reason years a good deal of attention has been paid to technological education programmes which could keep pace with our changing society and its requirements. In the way, Sri Lankan governments has taken measures to construct 25 university collage associated to the university of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC ).It helps to create alternative learning pathways up -to the degree level for students who are leaving formal education. 20 ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development by upgrading existing training centers.

The general objective of the university of Vocational Technology is to provide progressive upward movement to the students in the technical education and vocational training system, based on their aptitudes and abilities, to acquire university education.

The mission of the university of Vocational Technology is to provide services in human resources, curriculum, learning resources development research and consultancy to achieve professional excellence with ethical rectitude and to liaise with global TVET sector,academic community and Industry.

The university of Vocational Technology mainly consists of two faculties, eight departments and there are above 1800 students in different fields such as mechatronics, manufacturing, IT software, IT network, IT multimedia and Web, food, Film and television production, construction technology, industrial management and teaching.

The Chancellor is the head of the university and responsible for awrding all the academic degrees the Chancellor is the distinguished person in an academic discipline.

The appointment of Chancellor is done by the president of the Sri Lanka. The current Chancellor of the university is Prof. Dayantha Wijesekare. The vice Chancellor is the academic principal and administrative officer of the university and he is the responsible for management tasks. This appointment is also done by the president of Sri Lanka. The vice Chancellor is Prof. G.L.D. Wickramasinge.

Students of the university conduct 10 clbus and oraganization. Environmental society, sports club, IT club, Art circle, Gavel club, electronic club, and explorer club and media society.

University providing technical and vocational education for all with aspiratoins to achieve professional excellence.
