LANDSCAPE, LANDMAKES, FUTURE DIRECTIONS
Television is a one of grate invention in the history.
Nowadays television is a common thing in every house. Television is the main
source of information, news, entertainment and communication. However, it is an
important part of peoples’ life. Television is playing a main role in peoples’
life. The very special thing is it can bring the whole world into one house. So
people can very easily get what are the new information. We can watch several
types of programs from a television. For example, current news, criminals,
sports, weather, history, education, travel and many more. The word television
comes from tele + vision. Tele means a grate word for far away and vision means
sight. Television is a machine. It has a screen and we can see pictures and
hear sounds. Television converts images into electrical impulses which are send
from cables, radio waves or satellite. After that television receiver where
they can change back into a picture. People started to do experiment about
television during 19th century. There is a doubt about who invented
the television first. There are many answers for that. So Philo Farnsworth, John Loggie Baird,
Charles Francis Jenkins are the inventors of television. John Loggie Baird the
person who successfully transmitted the first TV picture in 1878. He was Scottish
amatew scientist. This happened in England. After that 1884 s’ Paul Niphow
developed loggies’ system. Loggie's’ system used a mechanical camera consisting
of large spinning disc with a spiral of holes. In 1927, phyllo Farnsworth successfully
demonstrated electronic television in san Francisco.
The first
television network of Sri Lanka was launched on the 13th of April 1979. It’s called ITN (Independent Television
Network). It established Anil Wijewardena and Shan Wickeramasigha. ITN become
the first terrestrial television channel of Sri Lanka. After two months’
government took the control of ITN. Sri Lanka’s second TV station is Sri Lanka
Rupawahini Corporation (SLRC) in 1882. The very first private TV station is
Sirasa TV. Its owned Capital Maharaja.
Television technology is now more advanced than ever
before. In the past a TV set was too big. Also seen in Television made of wood
at that time. In addition, in the past, batteries were used to watch
television. He also tuned channels using antennas. It was also televised in
black and white at the time. In recent years, color television technology has
evolved. That was in 1946. The channel switching technology using the remote was
developed in 1956. It's a big win technically. Today, television technology is
very high. TV can connect to the internet, make phone calls, play games, listen
to music, watch movies, connect computer to television, connect mobile phone to
television, connect CDs, pen drives and watch anything you want. We can revisit
programs. It is also easy to watch on any foreign channels. Nowadays technology
is very advanced. Then people try to add new technology for television. Now we
have digital televisions. It is a huge discovery. There have been various
developments in television from the past to the present. For example, Cable TV,
Satellite TV, Color TV, Electronic TV, Internet TV, 3D TV, Smart TV, Digital
TV. These are the landmarks of television.
In Sri Lanka there are many Sinhala English and Tamil
TV Stations. There are analog terrestrial networks, satellite networks and pay
television networks.

Sri Lanka Television stations landscapes are very
important. These are the examples for that.
Rupawahini
corporation
(SLRC) is situated in independent square, Colombo 07. We call it Jathika
Rupawahini. It is a government owned TV station.
Independent
Television Network(ITN) also government owned TV station. It
established in wikramasighapura, Baththaramulla.
Sirasa
TV
is a digital terrestrial television network. It situated in 45/3, bragbooke street,
Colombo 02. It has two sister channels. They are TV 1 and Shakthi TV.
TNL
is
situated in 52, 5th lane, Colombo 3. Its owned Telshan Network (PVT)
LTD. It established in 1993. TNL TV was one of Sri Lanka’s first privately owned
television channel.
Swarnawahini
is situated in 676, Galle RD, Colombo 00300. It owned by EAP Broadcasting
Company. It established in 1994. Its sister channel is ETV.
Extra
Terrestrial Vision (ETV) is situated in 31, Shady Grove
Avenue, Colombo 8.
Art
TV
is situated in 451, Kandy Road, Kelaniya. It owned ART Television Broadcasting
company (PVT) LTD. (IWS Holdings Group).
Derana
TV
is situated in No 05, Shelton Road, Colombo 05 and No 320, T.B. Jayah Mawatha,
Colombo 10. It owned Derana Macro Entertainment (PVT) LTD. It established on 11
October 2015. It has two sister channels. Ad Derana 24 and FM Derana.
Hiru
TV
is Situated in N0 51/5, Alexandra Place, Colombo 07. It owned by Asia
Broadcasting Corporation. It established on 23 may, 2012. Hiru TV is Sri Lanka’s
first and only digital television channel which has the DVB.72 pictures and
stereo sound.
Siyatha
TV
is situated in 117, 10, Hunupitiya, Lake Rd, Colombo. It owned Voice of Asia
Network (PVT) LTD. Varnam TV and Kiss FM are the sister channels.
Rangira
TV
is situated in Rangiri Dambulla Uyanwaththa Rajamaha Viharaya, No:130, Kandy
road, Dambulla. It owned Rangiri Sri Lanka (PVT) LTD.
Taking about future directions of television, Future
television will be a magician one. I think like that. Because world’s
technology and knowledge of inventors are very improved. I hope to be able to
carry a TV bag in the future. And I think the viewer will be able to capture
the scenes we see live. Suppose we want a dress or a meal in a TV commercial. We
may be able to take it off the screen immediately. Perhaps more advanced media
that television has been created and television has become obsolete.
