What is this virus?

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to severe chronic respiratory diseases.

However, the new outbreak of coronavirus (nCoV) has not previously been known to affect people.

Coronaviruses are transmitted from animals to humans.  Detailed investigations have previously revealed that SARS-CoV viruses and MERS-CoV camels have been transmitted to humans worldwide.  Several coronaviruses that have not yet been infected with humans have been identified as circulating in animals.

A person infected with such a virus can develop symptoms such as respiratory illnesses, fever, coughing, shortness of breath and shortness of breath.  In more severe cases, pneumonia, severe chronic respiratory disease, kidney failure, and even death may occur.

What are the symptoms of neonatal coronavirus?

The new coronavirus, known as Kovid-19, is a respiratory illness.  It starts with a fever and then develops into a dry cough.  After a week, you may have difficulty breathing, and some patients may require hospitalization.

Just because you have these symptoms does not mean you are infected with coronavirus.  These symptoms are similar to other common viral infections, such as the flu and the common cold.

Other than the worst, coronavirus infection can lead to pneumonia, sarcasm, organs failure, and even death. Worldwide, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it a global epidemic, transmitting from person to person in many parts of the world simultaneously as a coronavirus infection.

 How does Kovid-19 spread?

It is not yet known how to transmit coronavirus from person to person.  However, similar viruses can be caused by mucus or mucus emitted by coughing or sneezing.

Also, the mucous membrane or mucous membranes of an infected person may have surfaced and experts say that the virus has been active for several days.

How long does it take to show symptoms?

The World Health Organization (WHO) says that it takes about 14 days for the virus to show symptoms from the time it was infected.  But some researchers say that it can take up to 24 days for symptoms to emerge.

How to prevent the virus from spreading

Always wash your hands with soap regularly and this should be done after extinguishing it in a public place.

You can also use a hand gel to clean your hands.

When coughing and sneezing the mouth and nose should be covered with a linen cloth or tissue paper.

After use, tissue paper should be discarded gradually.

In the absence of tissue paper, the elbow should be folded over the upper arm and covered with cough or sneezing.

Do not touch the face with unwashed hands.

Infected people should not be allowed to go near them, and they should be free from public access.

Meat and eggs should be cooked well.

If working with wild animals as well as on farms, they must stay away from diseased animals.

Dead animals should not be consumed.

What is the difference between coronavirus and common flu?

Coronavirus and common fever have many similar symptoms, making diagnosis difficult without proper medical examination.

The main symptoms of coronavirus are fever and cough.  Common flu can often cause other symptoms, such as measles, but people with coronavirus can have difficulty breathing.

What to do when the symptoms start?

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka says that if there are any symptoms, it is best to go to a hospital immediately.

Meanwhile, the UK Institute of Public Health (PHE) says it is best to isolate yourself if you have close contact with a person infected with the virus.  It prevents other people from getting the virus

You should stay away from other people in the house.

Activities outside the home should be restricted.
